Cricket Australia has requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board to reschedule the two-match Test series currently pencilled in for the 2027 season.

According to Future Tour Program, Bangladesh were scheduled to travel to Australia in March 2027 but now the hosts want to play the series in August- September of 2026. Cricbuzz understands the request was placed as Australia are looking to host two Test matches in Melbourne that includes a special 150-year anniversary Test against England in the summer of 2026-27.

Furthermore, CA is planning to extend the three-match Test series against New Zealand, scheduled ahead of the series against Bangladesh.

“They (CA) have requested us to reschedule it (tour for Test series in 2027) but it is still under discussion. They have got a plan to celebrate their 150 year anniversary and that is a national commitment and due to that they want to reschedule the Test series against us and working on that,” BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Tuesday.

Since earning the Test status, Bangladesh have played only one Test series in Australia when they toured in 2003 for the two games. Bangladesh were scheduled to play two Tests and three ODIs against Australia in 2018 but the tour was cancelled over broadcaster indifference to the series.

Meanwhile, the Australian team refused to travel to Bangladesh in 2015 due to security reasons and later played that series in 2017 – the last in the format between the sides. Bangladesh were also scheduled to host Australia in 2020 but that series was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
